The owners searched for four years before finally finding the perfect property for renovation – the hamlet of Fighine, set high atop a hill overlooking the sweeping plains of Tuscany.

Fighine, an 11th century fortified castle and hamlet, was built at a time when great families were squabbling over control of the valleys below. The Visconti, the Orsini, even the Pope and the Medici – all had claimed it in turn. Dense ivy covered every stone and barricaded every path. Tearing down the ivy, another tower was discovered that no one had known even existed. Inside the castle were high-vaulted ceilings, an olive-press room and a wine cellar.

Fighine has been lovingly restored to create a hamlet where one can experience life in a medieval village. Narrow streets lead to a small 16th century church and a private theatre.

Fighine is situated between Rome (170 kms) and Florence (150 kms).
